Week 8 - Using ICT in Class

Ever since last year when the Argentine government launched an OLPC programme, teachers, students, families have been talking about laptops, internet, possibilities, iquality; and no internet access yet, students know more than teachers, laptops are really distractors in class, teachers don't know what to do with the machines.

After some thousands computers had got to their new owners' hands in these last 9 months, the government launched some teacher education programmes to provide the teachers with the tools and skills to use ICT in class. The laptops are far from being the panacea of all educational ills; however, this new technology used in education has set many people to think.

Teachers need to reflect on their new role in the 21st century classroom, in which they are no longer the source of information. And teachers need to learn the skills they have to teach the students in their classes. And teachers need to become, in Carol Chapelle's words, critical technologically-informed pragmatists to cope in this new technology´-enhanced learning environments.

Cheers,
Gonzalo :-)

  1. Dear Gonzola,

I really enjoyed watching your video. I feel that today's generation are really different from us and we need to teach them using what interests them which is through the use of technology which is always being updated and renewed. We always have to keep up with the pace of our students in order to engage them and make them improve our future.

  2. Hi, Gonzalo

I agree with your point of view, now we have in our hands the next generation students, we have the great and big responsability to form them in a completely way. of course with the use of the technology we need first to be update, because our studests are kind of experts in the use of the internet tools, so, we need to take in advance it, and motivate, cheer and support them to explore the huge possibilities to work, study, learn and fun in class.

  3. Dear Gonzalo,
We here in India have the same ICT drive by the government. Much confused scenario rather for the teachers. They feel that it has taken the steering wheel control from them. In fact the teachers have to rethink on their role as they earlier were the source of information to the students rather a guidance.
But I think the ICT proved to be a real eye opener for the community of teachers who has overlooked their primary role.

    Take Care!

  4. Hi guys,

Isn't it great to be in contact with teachers from different parts of the world, and many living through similar experiences?

I guess this is the highlight of studying in a US university.

    Cheers,
    Gonzalo :-)
